Alpha Lipoic Acid-The Super Antioxidant
Alpha Lipoic acid is, among other things, considered the “super antioxidant” for its ability to neutralize free radical damage in the body (Free radicals are the free floating destructive chemicals that are the byproducts of cellular metabolism). An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.Well known aging effects such as skin wrinkling, vision impairment, joint problems, and diseases ranging from cancer to arthritis are a result of free radical damage. The damage that free radicals inflict on the body causes inflammation which leads to virtually all diseases as stated in an issue of Time Magazine in February, 2005 (cover titled The Secret Killer, The surprising link between INFLAMMATION and HEART ATTACKS, CANCER, ALZHEIMER’S and other diseases). Because of it’s fat and water soluable properties it is able to penetrate all cellular regions in the human body. This is made possible because it […]
